Decorated car trunks with glowing pumpkins and string lights at a trunk-or-treat in a church parking lot on an October evening

Halloween falls on a Saturday this year, which means the whole weekend is wide open for candy collecting. And honestly, trunk-or-treats are one of the best parts of small-town October: no long walks in the dark, no guessing which houses are handing out, just a parking lot full of decorated trunks, friendly neighbors, and enough candy to last until Thanksgiving. Here are the ones I know about across Irmo, Chapin, and Lexington this year.

Lexington

Light Up the Night

Lexington Baptist Church, 308 E. Main St., Lexington. Thursday, October 29, 6-9pm.

One of the biggest in town: trunk-or-treat plus a live DJ, rides and inflatables, and food trucks. Free.

Cars, Candy and Community

North Lexington Church of Christ. Friday, October 23, 6:30-8pm.

A free trunk-or-treat with games, food, and plenty of candy. Exactly what it sounds like, and exactly what the kids want.

Irmo

BOOGRASS in the Park

Moore Park, 7473 Church St., Irmo. Friday, October 30.

Trunk-or-treat starts at 6pm, bluegrass music at 7pm. Free and open to everyone. Bring a lawn chair and let the kids run laps between the trunks.

Trunk or Treat at Irmo Music Academy

Sunday, October 25.

Free admission with games, prizes, and performances by the academy's students. A good pick for younger kids who are not up for a big late-night crowd.

Keller Williams Realty Trunk or Treat

1 Harbison Way, Ste. 115, Harbison. Friday, October 23, 5:30-7:30pm.

Costumes, candy, games, and family fun in the parking lot. An easy stop on the way home from work.

Chapin

Halloween at the Park

Crooked Creek Park, 1098 Old Lexington Hwy., Chapin. Friday, October 23, 6-8:30pm.

The Irmo Chapin Recreation Commission's trick-or-treat trail and outdoor carnival sets up right by the lake. This one fills up fast.

A couple of practical notes

Times and locations can shift if the weather turns, so it is worth a quick check before you head out. Most of these are free, so bring the grandparents too.

And if your family is new to the Midlands and still figuring out which neighborhood fits, I am happy to answer questions, no strings attached, just a local who knows the area. Warm regards, make it a great day.
