I will be straight with you. I am picky about where I eat. After 34 years in accounting, you kind of develop a radar for what is worth your time and what is not. Silver Fox Grill passed that test the first time I walked in.
It is a family-owned place off Broad River Road in Irmo. Nothing fancy about the decor, and I mean that as a compliment. The kind of restaurant where the owner knows the regulars by name and the staff actually seem happy to be there. You do not get that everywhere, you know?
The menu is American comfort food done right. Burgers that are hand-pattied and cooked with actual flavor. A Fox-Mento burger combo that is honestly one of the best burgers in Irmo. Philly cheesesteaks that do not skimp on the meat. Fried fish platters (flounder and catfish both) that taste like somebody in the kitchen actually cares about what they are putting out. And the onion rings. I do not normally get excited about onion rings, but theirs are worth mentioning.
Portions are generous. Not in a performative way, just an honest one. You get what you pay for, and you do not leave hungry. The prices are fair too. A full meal runs you under 20 bucks, which is getting harder to find these days.
What I like most about Silver Fox, though, is the consistency. A lot of local restaurants will have a great first month and then slowly slide into mediocrity. That is not the case here. I have been back several times, and the food is the same every time. The service is the same every time. That kind of reliability matters. Especially if you are new to the area and trying to find the spots you can count on.
If you live in Irmo or you are house-hunting in this part of the Midlands, put Silver Fox on your list. It is the kind of place that makes a neighborhood feel like home. And honestly, that is half of what I do for a living, finding you a neighborhood that feels like the right fit. Good local food is part of that equation.
What to Order
The Fox-Mento burger combo is the headliner. It is a burger done the way burgers should be, with good meat, fresh toppings, and crinkle fries that actually taste like potato. If you are a first-timer, that is where you start.
The Philly cheesesteak is another strong choice. They do not hold back on the filling. The fried fish platters are a local favorite, especially on the days when they have fresh flounder. And the onion rings, I keep coming back to them, but they are that good. Thick-cut, well-battered, not greasy.
Also worth noting: the wings. A lot of places treat wings as an afterthought. These are not. Good sauce, good cook, good size. If you are stopping in for lunch, the lunch specials are a solid deal.

Whether you are new to Irmo or you have lived here your whole life, Silver Fox Grill is worth your time. Good food, good people, and a relaxed atmosphere that reminds you why eating local matters. You will be glad you stopped in.
